be kept inside of the motor mount tubes.   The exhaust pipes could
drop down to the level of the bottom of the radiator and still fit
within the cowl.  From there they could be routed back to the  front
of the firewall and then across the firewall until 32 inches length
was reached.  Might even be room for a muffler lying across the
bottom of the firewall.

  I can not think of any advantage to having the MM  narrower than 24"
If you use a narrower than 24"  (mine is 20.5") then the exhaust
tubes have to go outside of the motor mount tubes. No width is saved.
Turbos , of course,  need the 30" spacing from Paul's original design.
