Thanks Paul. I asked Tracy about changing the gear ratio a while
back,
and he said it would be a
completely different setup to do that. So I was supprised to see
the
reference to 2.85:1.
According to his web site, his ration is 2.176:1. I'm planning on
using
his unit, but would have
liked a little higher ratio. This new bell housing looks very
interesting though. I expect to
need the reduction unit in the next 4 -6 weeks, so will have to
consider
upgrading later.

I think the casting can be designed for both with minor machining
changes.

Just to clarify, What I was saying is that the 2.176:1 drive cannot be
retrofitted with the 2.85 : 1 gears *after* the casting is machined. I
plan to use the same casting for both 2.176 and 2.85 drives. The
machining
will be different.

I think Tracy is headed in the right direction.....He will have a
"universal" product which will satisfy those wanting 2.17 OR 2.85 gear
ratios, and thanks to Paul Lamar's efforts, the casting concept looks great!
It looks a lot like a Ross redrive, which isn't a bad thing. Watch the
orders pour in ! Paul Conner
