  Again Keith, thanks. I appreciate the time you take away from business to
respond.
  It still appears to me that this problem could have been avoided with
clamped (not welded!) slip joints on both primaries at each end of the
pipe. It looks to me like the failure was due to unequal thermal expansion
between the 2 primaries. Since everything was rigidly welded together
something had to give.
  But that is a laymens point of view - I'm not an engineer (or a welder).
I've got a friend who does the welding - I come up with the layout and cut
the tubing - he does the hard part. Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing
other points of view on this. Not that I doubt your recommendations Keith
as they are easy to incorporate.
