Also in current use is a tube within a tube.
I noticed the weld bead was quite wide, increasing the haz,
and may have contributed to the failure.

Tube within a tube is a good idea and very easy to accomplish. The
outer tube can be expanded to slip over the stub and heavily tacked
to the flange. Remember to smooth and blend the weld bead that is on
the inside of the flange. I think I will do that portion of my
exhaust system over now that I have a clear view of this. Jerry
