 A "jet" or "K" nut is an aircraft quality carbon steel or stainless steel

self locking
    nut. In carbon steel and may be cadmium plated. May be used without a
washer
    in many applications as it has a generous skirt. Also very light. In
accordance
    with MS (Military Standard drawing) MS21042. Shorter than AN (AirForce
Navy
    standard) AN363 but just as strong. (Aircraft Spruce page 89). Another
good nut
    around heat is NAS (National Aerospace Standard) (SAE) NAS679. (Engineer
to
    win) Carrol Smith page 149. All plentiful as surplus or new from Aircraft
spruce
    and other outlets.
