Here is the final schematic Ed. I'll also try to
print it and send it in the box along with the switch
and second RS232 K thermal couple module.
My old GPS failed (I think) so I cannot test it with both the GPS
and the module.

Make sure your GPS TX and RX are connected correctly.

Ok Paul,
    After what you suspect happend to your GPS, I'll be double careful.
Probably hook up my new oscilloscope to check what is on the terminals.

Check my wiring too. Here is the data sheet for the Maxim RS238.
Don't want to connect TX to TX :)
