That stuff is called "backer rod" and is used to 'back up' the sealants
put in seams in architectural wall panels, the "expansion control
cracks" in concrete, and similar uses.  BTW, you COULD even use those
kiddie/adult swimming pool foam rods (you know-you straddle them in the
pool and float on them in the water with your margarita!) they sell in
Wal-mart in the summer. About the right size, and the sizes vary. I
think this was discussed a couple of years ago-you could use them for
plumbing routing, exhaust, you name it.
I am now using dial up from Dallas and in moving status, so excuse the
lapses.
