NACA did a lot of applied research during WW II
on piston engines, cooling drag and props that is pertinent to our use.
Unfortunately it is not well organized and difficult to search
for subjects of interest. The reason is the title nomenclature was
not standardized and turbo compound engines could be called
anything from blow down turbines to compound engines in the
titles of the tech papers. Also unfortunately you cannot search 
the internal parts of the pdf's by key words of interest
on the NACA web site. 

I spent some time going through the entire list from 1940 through 
about 1948 when all of this kind of research stopped. From then 
on it was all turbines and jet airplanes.

I down loaded all the pdf papers of interest which amounted
to about 100 meg of data in the form of pdf's and dozens of
papers. I then did a bit of data processing to build an index
of just those tech papers that should be of interest to us.

Here is a partial index with summaries. I will expand this
list when I have time.
