That is correct for most of the stock or stock like classes. Nearly all of
the formula and GT classes run dry sumps for ground clearance and to some
extent, reliability.
There wouldn't be much of an advantage in an airplane where a little bit of
an oil pan doesn't cause much of a problem. If you don't trust the stock
pump, you could hang a racing pump on the outside and just suck oil out of
the pan. You can control the speed of the pump by changing pulley size, and
adjust the pressure with the outside pump.
