It is not as if the turbo RX7 would have an easy time of it
 with all these large V8's :)

 This is not true auto racing. It is a money making scam pure and simple.
 A circus if you will. Pure NASCAR where all the cars and engines
 are identical with only the name changed. Totally boring from
 an engineering point of view.

 Any true auto racing fan that is interested in the relative performance
 of different makes of cars should boycott this so called auto racing
 organization's sponsors and races.

 Lynn, this sounds like the old IMSA organization with a name change.
 Is that correct? At one time IMSA made you carry 650 pounds of
 lead ballast if you wanted to run a rotary.

It is the remains of John Bishops delightful racing series. Now
unrecognizable. In fact
Bishop's RS (racing stocks) series put the Rotary on the map with the Car and
Driver
RX-2. I had not been a fan of the rotary until then. I later ran an RX-2 in
that very series. Once at Road Atlanta we qualified 67th in a field of 67. It
was a fresh built stock 12A with a stock 4 barrel Nikki or Mikuni, I forgot
which. Jim Downing had his carb guy look at our stock carb and tell us what
all we had to do to make it run. He even took the carb off of the pole
sitting RX-3 to show us how. Absolutely super people involved there. I think
we got as high as 19th but then we made a fuel stop we didn't need and ended
up 23rd. We even got a check bigger than the entry fee.

Now spec Miata can turn out that many starters, so the pendulum is beginning
to swing the right way again. Now the SCCA will let us run a rotary in a
Miata in GT-2, or a rotary in a Protege? in GT-3. At the dinner for
participants of the national championship runoffs at Mid Ohio, we tried to
get the Mazda comp people off of dead center on getting the RX-8 bodies out
into circulation so we can rebody our cars and get that body style in front of
the car nut race fans. We can make it look a lot better than the street
version for sure. They claim they have the molds made up and need a
dependable source for high quality bodies. We gave them one, on the spot. But
nothing has happened since then.
    I think Downing had a car in that race. The Kudzu, named after a vine
that over ran
the South years ago. So I feel bad for him and his gang.
