This is an idea whose time has come again IMHO.
Tip jet helicopter were rather common a few years ago
when the pulse jet was invented. The trouble with the
pulse jet was it burned too much fuel. Recently, relatively
efficient model turbo jet engines have become popular
and relatively cheap.

The thing about a tip jet is it is a very very powerful
engine for its weight. Two model turbo jets in this
configuration will generate 50 HP for a total weight
of only FIVE POUNDS!!!!!

This helicopter could be very lightly constructed out
of carbon fiber. My guess is well under 100 pounds.
No heavy engine or gear box.
