You will need to do some porting with a die grinder on the manifold
to allow air into the upper side ports. Also you will need to at
least radius parts of the cast iron opening with the die grinder
to smooth the flow into the two separate round holes in each end
housing.
If you don't need the the low profile and the turbo clearance for
a six port engine I recommend getting a stock six port lower manifold
from some place and cutting the stuff off you don't need. Then fab
an upper manifold using a flange and pipe or tubing runners. This
example was done by Mike Wills.
Mike also used a modified top part of a six port manifold
but you would get a lower profile I suspect by fabricating a
mating flange and using two inch inside radii RB Wagner pipe bends.
RV4's have relatively a lot of room, above the engine, as the thrust
line is rather low relative to the top of the cowl.
Mike is also using a dynamic chamber design. That was developed
by Mazda to increase the torque at 3000 RPM or so IMHO.
High torque at 3000 RPM in an geared aircraft engine is useless.
You will get more power at the top end where you need it by not
using a dynamic chamber as confirmed by Chuck Dunlap who tried
it with and with out the dynamic chamber. Just use a simple
plenum and bell mouths on the ends of the runners where they enter the
plenum. According to Power Sport bell mouths alone are worth
5% or 7 to 10 more HP.
Although you can do it I don't recommend using the stock injector
locations. It is much safer to move them over to the cool side of the
engine away from the exhaust. In theory you will get slightly
lower fuel burn as well. We have had our share of in-flight fires
and leaking exhaust that caused emergency landings and possibly
one fatal crash.
I'll return your check if you decide to go this route.
