supposedly has a couple in his attic. I don't think he
wants to
part
with them though. A rotary around 20 hp would make a great
powerplant
for an ultralight powered sailplane....

There are three guys on the Hummelbird list who are in
possesion of the
OMC
rotaries. More lUnfortunately this is now a really old engine,
so
sourceing
parts is diffecult. Hopefully either the freedom motors or
Wankel GesmbH
designs will be bought out a bankraupcy auction cheap, so
someone can
build
them for a realistic price.

1) Mazda made more rotary engines than every other manufacturer
combined
2) The 13B and 20B can put out anywhere from 100 to 300+ horsepower,
which is the range used by most homebuilts.
I was interested in the old OMC and Sachs motors more for ultralights.
There are numerous ultralight legal sailplanes in kit and plans form
that could use a 20ish horsepoer engine. Most end up using the Rotax
two strokes for weight and power considerations. Unfortunately the
Rotaxs end up seizing because people don't treat them correctly, and
they are pretty noisy. Seems like a rotary could solve both problems.
