Paul,
I really hope that you design us a suitable low-mounted water pump or that someone knows of a suitable pump that can be adapted. This will require me to rework my RV-4 motor mount scheme but I think that the benefits of this pump location make this worthwhile. Sign me up if you move forward with this project.

I got the design done today. The pattern will go in the foundry in a couple
of weeks. Uses the stock Mazda pump cartridge. Mount it like
an alternator so you can tension the belt.
We talked about this years
ago and Jeff Spitzer and Paul Yaw were going to improve the flow
on the stock Mazda pump. Never happened. This achieves that by a straight
shot in and a straight shot out unlike the stock pump with its sharp 90 degree
turns.

I will want one. Do you have an estimate on the cost?

No idea but relatively cheap compared to a new pump from a car dealer.
You will have to do some machining and hole drilling.
Just consider it a dividend of the free use of the pattern making
machine :-)
