Ed, The taperlock would easily handle the rpm. The elements
are
full
circle less a very minimal
slot which in multi-taper styles can be opposed for
excellent
balance.
The elements are trapped
within a full diameter and are quite strong. Weight here
seems
the
biggest negitive. What are your
shaft diameters? There are several newer multi-taper
elements
that
reduce size and weight. The
gear would also move slightly while tightening. This
movement is
consistant though and you could
do a test assembly to predict the final position. Bill

The Ross shaft is 1.75" dia for about 2-3" just before the Sun
gear.
In
fact, I'm not certain there would be adequate clearance in the
gear
housing
for the taperlock (diameter wise that is).
Just curious as to whether this would simplify the lack of a
thrust
bearing
fix.

Ed, we just saw a new taperlock type of bushing that has no rim like
the
normal
ones does, think it was on the gates web site, or maybe Morse chain.

Perhaps. I'll be flying standby UAL and it all depends on what day it starts.
If I fly into Orlando unlikely. If I fly into Tampa perhaps. I will be
volunteering for the engine workshop area however.
