Earthlink plays little tricks on their customers. I use a network monitoring
program that tells me second by second what is going out and coming in over 
the internet. This runs on one of the six virtual screens under Linux.

Watching this when there is no activity does not tell me if earthlink
will accept an email message. If earthlink does not accept the message
it will send a packet telling my computer to wait. If that happens
and I don't know about it I will continue to constitute new email messages
filling up the send que. So every once in a while I will test earthlink for
the status of their system by sending a junk email message. Most of the
time I send it only to myself. Some times however that is not a good test
as earthlink can tell how many people I am sending the message to. If it
is the entire list they might accept a message to an individual but not the
entire list. So sometimes I will check to see if they are accepting messages
to the entire list. It is a never ending see saw battle with their programmers.
They keep changing the code on their end to thwart people like me that
abuse the internet in their opinion :)
