Uh Paul, one of those whackos drove her car here (Missouri) from NJ,

less that $30 in gas. We both

drove the car (Civic) and were pleasantly surprised. It's zippy but

ugly. Sort of a golf cart

pretending to be an automobile.

What is that?... say 1000 miles?  20 MPG 50 gallons. 30 MPG 33

gallons.

40 MPG 25 gallons. 50 MPG 20 gallons.

How fast did you cruise? What was the top speed? What did the car

cost?

What was the price of gas when you did that? We are paying $2.10 a

gallon

here in CA for regular.

My $6500 ( when new) 3 cyl 1.0L 93' GEO Metro used to get 50 mpg at 55

mph.

I drive it at 73 mph and I get about 43 mpg.  I wanted a new Honda (70

mpg)

hybrid but I don't want to give them $25,000 so I'm putting a new motor

in

my GEO for about $500 (old motor went 200,000 miles).  The cash I save

will

pay for my turbocharged rotary powered canard ;)

There you go and it does not even have regenerative braking. It also has

more

room than the hybrids. I'll also bet if you bought an equivalent car today
it would cost no where near $25,000. The real cost of the hybrids, if the
Calif. commie government did not force Toyota & Honda to sell them at a

loss,

would be closer to $50,000. Nobody would buy them at that price.
The rest of us pay for the hybrids by paying a higher price for
all the other Toyota and Honda products. Otherwise Toyota and Honda
would go out of business.

Hey guys just got home from checking out a diesel golf. Not too shabby at 42
city and 49 highway with a stick. Wouldn't exactly call it a RX turbo for
0-60 but hey 40ish to the gal. Perhaps someday the line at the pump may be
shorter as well. And if the worst happens anyone got some deepfryer oil and
lye?
