BTW as an exercise for the reader how much HP does it take to
climb a 1800 pound gross weight RV4 at 1500 feet per minute not
counting the HP required to over come drag. Show your calculations.

I didn't see a response for this, so I thought I'd take a stab..

(1800lbs X 1500 ft )/ 60 sec= 45000 ft.lbs/sec

1 hp =550 ft.lbs./sec

45000/550 = 81.82 hp

Right on Chris.

Except that an RV-4 with an FAA standard 170 pound pilot that was loaded to
1800 lb would be dangerously past aft CG limits and might not climb at all
: )

Max gross weight on an RV-4 is 1500

Assume the builder screwed up and the rotary engine installation was over weight :)
