Look, we need to develop hydrogen powered vehicles so that we can use petroleum fuels for more important things- like aviation. Seriously though, there might be some merit to using solar cells in arizona or wind power in Oklahoma to extract hydrogen from water, but it would probably be more econonomical to just sell the electricity back to the electric company.
