Thanks Paul. I asked Tracy about changing the gear ratio a while
back,
and he said it would be a
completely different setup to do that. So I was supprised to see
the
reference to 2.85:1.
According to his web site, his ration is 2.176:1. I'm planning on
using
his unit, but would have
liked a little higher ratio. This new bell housing looks very
interesting though. I expect to
need the reduction unit in the next 4 -6 weeks, so will have to
consider
upgrading later.

I think the casting can be designed for both with minor machining
changes.

Just to clarify, What I was saying is that the 2.176:1 drive cannot
be
retrofitted with the 2.85 : 1 gears *after* the casting is machined.
I
plan to use the same casting for both 2.176 and 2.85 drives. The
machining
will be different.

I think Tracy is headed in the right direction.....He will have a
"universal" product which will satisfy those wanting 2.17 OR 2.85 gear
ratios, and thanks to Paul Lamar's efforts, the casting concept looks
great!
It looks a lot like a Ross redrive, which isn't a bad thing. Watch the
orders pour in ! Paul Conner

Paul,
What is the status of the ultimate bell housing?

Its on hold. Tracy has some investment in NC machine tool programs that
he is reluctant to have re written. Can't say I blame him too much. He is
going to have to do it sooner or later as the RX8 engine redline is 9500 RPM
and people are going to start to wonder why they can only get 6500 RPM out of
their RX8 engine :)

Here is the 3D again for the new guys.
