Paul,
I know this has been discussed in the past, but for some reason I can't find my notes. What should the length from the bell-mouth opening to the top of the cast manifold (where the tubes are welded to the casting) be? Normally aspirated.

As short as you can get them in there Bill. If you clear the oil filler
pipe it will be a bit too long for max power IMHO. But the BSFC should be better
at 5000 RPM cruise. I am not at the hangar and I cannot measure what
this should be. Max power at 6000 RPM is somewhere around 20 inches
total +/- 3 inches. Port to bell mouth. This is for a 2.17:1 gear box which
I assume is what you have. Shorter of course for a 2.85:1 box and
7100 RPM.
