I would be more impressed if it were detonation gun coatings.

Paul, Do you have any idea what they are coating with? I know the electrofusion process is
expensive. I work for a company that does all kind of vacuum deposition. We routinely sputter hard
coatings like titainium nitride. Additionally do you have any idea how thick these coatings are? I
ask because we often get old machines in for trade-in or refurbishment. A 15 yr old sputtering
machine isnt good for electronics, but to blast on a thick coating it might be just the ticket. We
might start a cottage industry in aluminum end housings. Bill Jepson

No and no :) Mazda used "Carbide based cermet" whatever that is.
A chrome carbide base coat was used.

I think it was Cr3C2.20w1%Ni-Cr whatever that is.
Detonation gun applied.
