I receintly removed the spring from my butterfly valve on the throttle

body

thinking that it won't be needed in the aircraft.  Then I realized that
the spring might be useful in preventing flutter of the butterfly valve.

Does anyone have any experience or advise on the matter?

I am using a TB from an LS1 Chevy.  The stock return spring holds the
butterfly in the closed position when at rest.  I disassembled it by
removing the butterfly and shaft.  Then I replaced the normally closed
spring with one of the return springs from the Mazda TB.  It is wound the
opposite direction from the Chevy, and now holds the butterfly in the open
position when at rest.  It is also a much weaker spring than the Chevy's
double-wound spring.  Maybe this approach would work for you.

As a bonus, I plan on using the old Chevy TB spring to hold my baggage door
open.
