I'm just a dumb software guy, but I thought the gascolator was between the sump and the high
pressure fuel pump(s). For best cooling, one would want the fuel cooling device to be between
the pressure relief valve on the fuel rail and the sump.

Hey, you're no dummy, thats my job! but I was just looking for all the free cooling we can get,
granted the difference may not be as high. on canards they want you to put the cup dangling into
the stream coming in the NACA.. as much for accessability.

So that's why Perry's sump tank is blocking the flow to his rad :)

It's in that location so it is low enough that the main tank drains to
it by gravity. Accessibilty and airflow cooling are side benefits.
