That's pretty good Chrissi. The excess material provides a opportunity for people to express
their creativity :)
Here is a picture of a box of water pump castings. I'll try to get
at least one machined before I leave.

BTW I talked to the foundry yesterday about a process called ball burnishing.
It is a low cost finish applied to the outside of a sand casting that markedly
improves the surface finish and the appearance. Like $15 or $20 bucks
per casting. Not expensive as polishing but polishing can be applied
after the ball burnishing.

That would be great, there is only so much I can do with a dremel and a mill. The internal stuff
is a pain as well, I just have not found the right tools for the job yet.

More bad news. I made a major screw up when I scaled the pattern for shrinkage
and all 17 castings are junk. This will set the water pump back
a month as I have no time between now and SnF to get another pattern
in the foundry. I did use one of them to check the machining techniques
and it is doable but time consuming. I'll have a picture of that tomorrow.
