The owner of one of the most prestigious aluminum foundries in
the US has been converted to a rotor head. I showed him a picture
of Tracy winning the Sun 100 race and he offered to develop
aluminum end housings at no cost to us. A good example of
the synergy between air racing and changing the hearts and
minds of untold thousands about the rotary.

He has the technology needed to embed low cost steel wear surfaces in
the
aluminum end housings. He already makes thousands of aluminum car wheel
centers with inserted steel parts that are welded to steel rims. His
car wheels so designed and constructed have survived millions of
fatigue
cycles in industry standard wheel testing rigs.

He has also agreed to develop an aluminum three rotor intermediate
housing
which is a key to the continued availability of the three rotor engine.
Anybody with an NC lathe can make three rotor eccentric shafts
but the three rotor intermediate housing is another matter entirely.

We need to beg borrow or buy a three rotor intermediate housing new or
used.

If this really comes to pass, it is spectacular news.   How much weight
will be saved?  I know it is significant amount.    I will schedule my

With the stock center housing weighing about 25 pounds we expect to
get that down to about 5 pounds. The rear housings weighs about 35 to 40
pounds and that should be about 15 or so.
