Paul,
I have a 13b turbo engine which I will soon put up for sale. I bought
it as a 1989 model, but is
there a way to positively identify the year so that I can advertise it
correctly? Appreciate any
help that you or your list can give.

About 1989 they changed the turbo. Here are the comparisons.
If it is the 89-91 it is worth a lot more money than the 87-88.
The 89-91 are way less prone to cracking exhaust manifolds and turbos.

Mark,
There is a number, I believe cast on the top of the front housing, that is
used to determine the engine year. Contact a local Mazda dealer and they
should be able to tell you what the year is. The location of the number may
not be correct, but they should be able to tell you that as well.
