I was kidding of course but since you took it seriously I will clarify what
I was saying. To my way of thinking racing anything is a way
of proving the design and construction of the device raced. That is
the spirit of the rules.

There are many ways of solving a problem. If you solve a problem using
a method that is specific to the race and that will only work in
a specific race one is circumventing the unwritten or spirit of the rules
and putting a Band-Aid on the problem. In this case carrying a gallon
of water to spray on an oil cooler system that is fundamentally
inadequate for the job.

Lets say the race was 1000 miles and you need 1 gallon per 100 miles
to keep the oil cool. Are you going to carry 10 gallons of water that
weighs 80 pounds? Would it not be better to develop the oil cooling
system so it cooled the engine under all conditions such as a real
aircraft engine cooling system could and would?

We could of course start adding rules to the race outlawing
such band aids but that is a long and winding road difficult to
enforce.

That is all I am saying. This in no way subtracts from all the other
of Tracy's many accomplishments.

Paul.........I think that all ACRE subscribers that attended Tracy's Award
Dinner were aware that your reference to cheating was just kidding, with the
exception of some of the ladies present, Linda included. She asked me in a
whisper what you meant, then was very satisfied when I explained to her that it
was in jest, as we still don't have an installation that can sustain 200 mph
without overheating, but assured her we were working very hard on it......I
honestly got a good laugh out of your kidding and cried out "Pay the Man".

The purpose of my posting was my concern that this inside private joke became a
public broadcasted one.........Yes, we all know there are a lot of "Lurking
Organizations" & "Persons" (With bogus e-mail addresses) here, keeping an eye,
ear & nose on us, and of course a lot of "Newbies" which lack the background
and take these innuendos as gospel that can hurt individuals as well as
ACRE......We must do all we can to maintain the integrity and credibility of
your excellent Newsletter.....Amen!

BTW, since we are Record "Rule-less"........IMO we should at the very least
stipulate a few basic ones for the future, such as:

-Self contained Cooling System (No external aid)
-???????????

Should there be 2 categories......13B NA and 13B Turbo with 2 different Speeds?

                                                          Butch

I really hate to get into the rule can of worms. Best to keep it simple.
In theory someone could trailer in an airplane without radiators,
install the wings and race with a total loss cooling system squirting the
resulting steam out the back for a small amount of additional thrust. :)
