1/2 inch breaker bar is not big enough. You need a 3/4 with a four

foot

arm.

Or a large 3/4 impact wrench.

Bruce must be stronger than us mere mortals. :-) I had the same problem
trying to get that flywheel nut loose.  Perhaps one could do it IF the
engine was fixed so it couldn't move but it wouldn't budge with a

breaker

bar with a long extension.  List member and all round Good Buddy Ed

came to my rescue.  His impact wrench broke it loose like you were

backing

it off with your fingers!  Amazing!  Thanks again, Ed!

Jim is correct.  I have also wrestled and was finally successful in

removing

the flywheel nut by beating on the handle with a 2 lb hand sledge hammer
(were safety goggles if you do this).  It took forever, was frustrating and
potentially dangerous.  So, I found a 950 ft/lb impact wrench (I had a 350
ft/lb impact wrench and the nut just laughed at it) at a reasonable

price and

now they come off in 2 seconds (or less).   You just might be able to rent
one from a tool rental place, don't have any idea what they would charge.

A local tire shop that carries large truck tires ought to have a 1" impact
wrench.  Shouldn't cost but a few bucks for them to remove one nut.
