I think you can grind it off as the Schertz beam will provide plenty of
uniform clamping pressure on the oil pan flange.

Joe,
My calculations resulted in needing a beam that was too wide to fit in the
narrow area of the flange and still catch 6 bolts. Therefore I needed a new
oil pan.

Joe you can brace the Schertz beam with a couple of 1/2 inch tube
diagonals up to the top of the engine and the bending strength is 
then not a consideration. Something like what Mark Seitle is
doing.
