Paul, The gearbox housing could be carbon fiber, It would porbably save more than 15 lbs. Check out David Algie's work at Algie Composite aircraft.http://members.iquest.net/~aca/
He has been a head fabricator for Team Green IRL team. His carbon work is flawless, I am totally envious. I also was thinking of how light a front motor mount could be made with honeycomb carbon fiber. The only down side I can see is the potential for fire damage. I see the MMP shaped like the current alum. version on top with a bend back under the oilpan ala shertz beam with the standard barry mounts. Bill Jepson

I would be worried about an in-flight fire as well. One of the reasons
for not using a composite manifold. The less fuel for a fire you have up
there the better.
