Paul, I've got a project here at work that I'm trying to track down data
for.

Basically we've got an application that needs an APU that will run for a
LONG time, steady state. We're probably going to use hydrogen as the fuel.
What I'm looking for is data on how long engines will run when there used in
a steady state, start up, warm up, set at 50% power and run for 6 months.
No one seems to have good data except the automotive people, and they're
starting and stopping all the time.

I'm hoping that with clean fuel - as opposed to gasoline - and changing the
oil repeatedly during the mission, we can get into the 10's of thousands of
hours. Any idea where to start looking?

The Mazda 13B is reputed to operate for 20,000 hours at 3600 RPM
in gen set service with Ianette ceramic apex seals.
Perhaps Doctor Francesco Iannette can help.

Go to www.google.com and use the key words "ceramic apex seals."
Contact Mazda for hydrogen fuel info. I think they wrote a few SAE
papers on the subject. As I recall they felt the engine was well
suited to hydrogen fuel.
