Keeping the area constant would require castings. Possible of course but
more expensive than tubing. You might buy an inch of
clearance at great
expense.

BTW is it OK to publish your intake system?

I figure your correct about the expense. Probably not worth the effort. Yes please do publish
the intake, no problem there. a small slider bearing in the outside tubes would make action
smoother. You could also REPLACE the slide shaft with a hydraulic cylinder to make your hydraulic
control using two small cylinders. All off the shelf parts. Now we're talking! this could be a
very workable system. Bill Jepson

One thing you should be very careful of. The flat beam connecting the tubes
should be super stiff in bending and in torsion to hold the tubes in
perfect alignment. Any bending or twisting of the beam could cause
the telescopic tubes to cock and jam in the bores.
Carbon fiber composite honeycomb about 3/4 of an inch thick or thicker would
be both stiff in torsion and in bending.

So this assymble would be moving inside a housing of some sort right? The housing would be sealed
at the non moving tube?

Tom Webber

Right. My idea is better of course :) No precise alignment of the tubes is necessary
as each is self contained, self guided and self actuated.
