4. Show me an electric pump that will draw 54 amps.

Paul, I have had reason to use some hi-tech brushless dc servo motors that will draw 54 amps! The
problem is that the motor  is about 8 x 8 x 15 inches and weighs about 18 pounds. When will these
these guys understand that there is no free lunch. The motor I used will draw the same hp to turn
the pump as the stocker, in fact a bit more due to motor efficicency losses. For light weight and
simplicity you can't beat the belt driven pump. If you could the manufacturers would have done it
if only to increase mileage. Bill Jepson

No question in my mind you can build all sorts of DC motors that will
draw 54 amps. In fact there is a common DC motor on almost every car that
routinely draws 300 amps and puts out up to 3 or 4 HP. Only weighs
seven pounds. My point was these charlatans foisting electric water 
pumps on the unsuspecting public are claiming they draw less than 10 amps.

If someone wants to drive their water pump with a starter motor 
(for a short while) they had better install a couple more alternators :)
Like any electric driven mechanical device the over all efficiency
would suck. 80% alternator times 80% motor is 64% over all.
Electric water pumps ARE REALLY STUPID! :)
