These are 3rd gen air assisted apex seal oil injectors.
Apparently there is some sort of diaphragm in these
things that failed resulting in the loss of apex seal
oil to the rotor housing. Result... two scrap rotor
housings with chatter marks. Don't take any chances.
Mix two cycle oil with the fuel and forget the
$1,100 oil metering pump and its fragile plumbing..

So why can't we do both?
We have the metering pump by-pass kit to get oil from a resevoir.
We put an earlier gen front cover on to allow us to use the mech pump.
Are the 2nd gen oil injectors different in such a way as to not have this failure mode?
Will the 2nd gen oil injectors work in our 3rd gen rotor housings?

At your own peril Chrissi. I think a lot of engines are in junk
yards because of one kind or another of apex lube system problems.
Those puny five cent nylon lines get brittle and get cracked.

belt and suspenders approach to getting it there?

I think they will fit but second gen are also air assisted as I recall.
I just checked. Yes they are air assisted.

This has not been mentioned before when this subject
has come up in the past. THEY WILL NOT WORK unless the
air pump is installed. I don't know anybody that is running the
air pump. Perhaps as a vacuum source for gyro instruments.
As I recall Ed Anderson is running it as a vacuum source
but I don't think he has plumbed it to the oil injectors.

Also the second gen used four lines instead of only two like the third gen.
Two of the four injected oil into the intake manifold.

The first gen 12A engine was not air assisted, used two lines
and injected oil into the float bowl.

Chrissi, if you decide to use the third gen electronic stepper motor 
oil injection pump how are you going to control it without 
the stock computer?
