.   The trombone slide idea was an effort to minimize this effect.  I

concede it is more difficult to suspend.  It also may be OK at the higher
RPM's depending on realistic obtainable lengths.  It would probably lend
itself well to a ground adjustable type too

Hi Guys, Sorry I'm late to the party I was sent out of town for 4 days on short notice. Dan, There
are a couple of things to mention about the variable intake. First; The best intake tube is
straight, period. Yours is a GOOD idea, The trombone slide would work better than non-tuned
lenghts. There are interfereing standing waves in any curved tube. That said, a tuned length
curved tube still works better than a straight one thats way too short or too long. Second; there
isn't anything wrong with sticking the tubes into the plenum provided they don't get very close to
the far side. There is a lot of turbulence in the plenum anyway as the air making a 90 degree turn
causes turbulence. The tuned length works even better if you can get a little pressure rise with a
good ram air inlet. Bill Jepson
