Wouldn't this be a great place for a slide throttle then?  You could get
it right up against the housing as well as getting it completely out of
the airstream at wide open.  Just a random thought.

In theory yes.
It would be if you could clear the accessories on the front and back.
It needs at at least three extra inch on one end or the other.

If it is for side ports the manifold mounting studs on the rotor
housing interfere as well.

Here is another way of doing it when using peripheral ports.
This gives variable intake port timing in the bargain.
Old idea but might work even better with an RX8 side exhaust
and a real short dynamic chamber.
