Just came away from a meeting with the aluminum end housing
coalition.
IE. Foundry.. machine shop.. pattern maker.
They have come up with a very VERY good way of positively
locking the
through
hardened steel wear surfaces into the aluminum castings. We
are
all very excited about the prospect of a 150 pound rotary
engine
putting out 250 HP and doing it with no fuel burn penalty.
Now if I can get 15 pounds out of a 3:1 gear box we
will have one heck of an aircraft engine.

Why stop at 400 HP? A 900 HP three rotor has been done on the
dyno. Would
work
great in a Nemesis Next for Reno or most other 100 mile cross
country air
racing.
I think it would beat most small single engine turbines
airplanes
in
a 1000
to
1500 mile race simply because it would not have to stop for
fuel
and it
would
generate way more power up high.
Two out of the four end housings are aluminum in this RB
engine
pictured
below.
There also is that sprint car water pump I mentioned in a few
messages back.

I got an old skydiving buddy that has had his fun with a Beech 18
and
has
it for sale. Wouldn't it be fun to put a pair of 600 hp turbo
three-
rotors
in that and see how it would do. Give the PT6-20 Westwinds
(converted
B-18) a run for their money you would! With a competent pilot that
would
be a money making machine.
