Huh? I thought the 2.15:1 and 2.85:1 used the same gearset, and that the
difference was that the 2.17 held the planet carrier and let the prop
be driven by
the ring gear, whereas the 2.85 held the rign gear and lest the prop be
driven by
the planet carrier. What were the gear tooth counts again?

I used to think that as well but I was wrong. Two different planet sets.
And this is not all of them.

In a nutshell, I think this summarizes the two gear sets we are currently
looking at:

Real World Solution's current RD-1A & RD-1B:
Input : sun gear
Output = Ring Gear : Ratio = -2.17, (reverse of input.)

If Output = Planet carrier (not like RD-1A&B but like Ken Welter's Ross
drive): Ratio = +3.17 (same rotation as input)

Real World Solution's planned RD-1C
Input : Sun gear
Output : Planet carrier : Ratio = +2.85 (same rotation as input)

If Output = Ring gear (not like RD-1C) : Ratio = -1.85 (reverse of input)
