Subject: 100LL fuel

PS, adding the oil to the fuel may deter or alter the intended

purpose/properties of the lead scavenging additive properties of the
additive too. But remember, people running their rotaries at higher rpm
(via PRSU's and using 100LL) may not be affected by adding oil at all
though.

Perry, I snipped this to mention something about oiling. Too much oil will cause the engine to run
HOT. If you are pre-mixing and pumping this may be your problem.
2 cycles also have this problem. When Kawasaki was building the 3 cylinder 2 cycles they had a
problem with the little Mikuni oil injector pumps. When running
better quality injector oil they were just too rich. We had a rash of new bikes seizing. The shops
and customers believed the old saw about running more oil for break-in.
The oil displaces a little gas in the mixture and also burns hot. Too much oil is NOT good. In the
RX 3 racing sedan we ran about 75:1 - 100:1 pre-mix only and never had any trouble. Check your oil
mix. This could also account for your very hot tan ports. Bill Jepson

Good info Bill. Here is the history of my oil injection:

0-165 hours, original engine, completely stock, four injectors, oil
metering pump connected to throttle linkage. Never used pre-mix. Engine
oil Pennzoil 20W50.

165 hours, engine overhauled at Mazdatrix. Exhaust ports white.

165- approx. 300 hours. still stock oil injection, but also started
mixing 5 oz. of two-stroke oil with 5 gallons of gas. Engine oil Mobil
One 15W50.

300 - 400 hours, started modifcations to oil injection system and intake
manifold. First, removed throttle linkage. Oil injector pump at
max.throttle setting. More recently made new intake manifold and removed
injector lines from manifold, retaining two in the engine. Still using
pre-mix. Switched back to Pennzoil 20W50.

My exhaust ports are still white, but they were also white in the early
days running completely stock with no pre-mix.

I've read on the other rotary list that Atkins runs his oil metering
pump with the throttle linkage tied half-way, not full throttle
position. I don't know if he pre-mixes also.

When I burn mogas, I get a black deposit in my exhaust pipe. When I burn
100LL I get a gray deposit. This is exactly what you would expect,
according to the EAA webpage about the auto fuel STC.
