B&C sells a small 6-8 amp alternator, direct drive to interface off of the accessory 
drive on Lycomings. is the oil metering pump strong enough to drive something like 
that? would provide backup for our all electric planes that could keep the ignition 
going if a belt broke.

Perhaps with a bit of thought given to thrust bearings. As far as I can tell
there is no thrust bearings to take the load from the angle drive
gears.
