Is the diesel in the above discussion turbo-charged or n/a.  If it is
turbo'ed, is this fair comparing hp/torque numbers with a

n/a gas

engine?  Seems like an unfair advantage to me.

Mark, The diesel is turbocharged. It isn't an unfair advantage though,

whatever improves your efficency does the deed. The unfair comparison is
leaving out the weights. The diesel is a great lump. 1000 lbs. You get
more performance from the lighter gas engine. If you had to stake your
life on a drag race between the two trucks, which would you bet on?

I have a turbo diesel Dodge, and like it, and I'm betting on the gas

engine!

My only point was that in comparing the horsepower and torque outputs of
the two engines, maybe we should be comparing two turbo-charged engines
instead of one turbo, one n/a.  Weight matters too.  Cummins diesels
pickups are real popular here in Texas for towing purposes, but not for
race cars and airplanes.
