The water manometer is proving it's worth. I cut out the louvers, built a new exit duct
similar to the aluminum monstrosity that you built. I noticed on climbout the great suction
at the rear that I had with the aluminum duct was no longer there. It was less suction. Then
in cruise configuration, I actually had pressure at the front two exit measuring points,
static pressure at the third, and a slight suction at the rear. So now I have to put those
louvers back inside the exit duct????
I'm convinced that stock Mazda oil cooler form factor is just no good for a tandem seat
airplane. Don't mount it longitudinally like I did, it just doesn't work. It only works if
you can mount it face flat into the wind like it is in the car, or in a side-by-side plane
like Ed Anderson's.
I think I will have to get a Fluidyne oil cooler with a more square form factor, and put the
inlet and exit on the bottom of the strake.
I am going to build that finned oil pan. My exhaust system doesn't radiate into anything. I
figure it can only help, and if it doesn't, it will still look cool.
