To pick up on an old thread, it occurred to me the other night that if one
were to put a set of bearings on the housing under or near the belt portion of
the pulley, then the bending at the end of the pulley would be eliminated and
fatigue reduced.

On the stock housing this could be done by notching out the housing,
(providing there is enough material), to allow for a flat fit for the bearing to sit
on, the bearing to be retained by ring clip, etc.

This also could be done for the water pump housing you have designed.

This would require a newly designed pulley to accomodate the bearing, however
the revised pulley may be simpler to manufacture in that it would not have to
be of drawn material.

Because the revised pulley wouldn't have an unsupported end, and both ends
are supported, alum might work.
