We are only talking about an inch or two. As far as clean air for the prop
is concerned that is a cross you Rutan pusher people are going to have to bear :)

If I were starting with a clean sheet of paper I would make the landing
gear a lot longer and move the prop aft a couple of feet with a bearing
supported extension shaft.

We have a whole different configuration.. retractable main gear but the area you want to cut out is already part of the sump
(the well where the main gear is in the plans) and the main gear is mounted out on the spar, all clear of the prop, also prop
dia is larger due to struts not collapsing as far as the glass strut does.

Do you thing there would be a market

for a PSRU with a longer output shaft primarily for pusher
use?

possibly, or at least on ours

Moving the P51 type cooling air scoop further forward and cutting away the
useless fuselage structure behind the landing gear and below the spar will help.
