Moving the P51 type cooling air scoop further forward and cutting away the
useless fuselage structure behind the landing gear and below the spar will
help.

You need to move the opening further forward and streamline the boundary
layer bleed above it. If you don't do this pressure will build
just above the scoop and force the air down and under and thereby
by pass the opening.
