Just for the record for all you gearheads out there an aluminum V8 is much cheaper to build than stated:  (prices listed are from Summit for a Ford 302 - Chevy's are generally a little cheaper to build)
block           -  $3200 (not from Summit; from Raceparts Distribution)
heads (Edelbrock)-  1065
crank (forged)  -   639 to 999
rods  (forged)  -   500
pistons (forged)-   299 to 513

I would love to see the parts list for Gary Spencers LZ.  BTW, a stock Ford 5.0 long block (includes pan and distributor but no intake) weights ~ 450 lbs according to the guys race them.
I'm going to weigh mine someday when I build a new engine.
