Subject: Assembly lube suggestions

(But I still don't think that I can
make myself put piston and rings in dry!)

Ken, I would put em in rings dry, piston skirt lubed.
I used oil (regular motor oil) some of which had to
get on the rings. Even that was hard for me to do.
No matter what the "experts" say.
Be reminded that a manufacturer is most concerned that
the rings seat promptly. The manufacturer doesn't want
to do warranty engine work for smoking engines. They are
really not as concerned about long term wear.
