Carb cleaner doesn't hurt the bearings at all. It is formulated for aluminum and

pot metal carb bodies.  It will turn a heavily crusted rotor shiney bright. You
still will have to use a brass brush to clean the side seal grooves. And some of
the side seals are a pain to get out even after soaking

for several days.

Royce, you need to be careful with carb cleaner on bearings.
common "pot metal" for carbs is mostly zinc/tin not highly reactive.
(to carb cleaner) Most babbit has lead/antimony compounds, which MOST carb
cleaners won't attack, but some will. Aluminum is no problem in
either case. Not being a

Bill, we have used carb cleaner for years, and it doesn't even phase a tri-metal bearing,
which most are now days.
Soaked one extremely cruddy rotor over a month, (forgot it was in the soak).
Bearing was as good as ever.
