BTW your recent cooling data was taken under rather benign conditions.
I want to emphasize for the new guys that liquid cooling systems are
extremely
sensitive to ambient temp. Much much more so than air cooled systems.

This is because of the temp differential. Liquid cooling systems are
limited
by the 220 degree F or so temp of the coolant so a ten degree increase
in
out
side temp makes much more of a difference than if you are dealing with
a 400 degree F air cooled cylinder head.

I certainly agree, I have noticed that I can tell when the OAT has
changed
by as little as 5F by noting the coolant and oil temps changes. So a
relative little change in ambient temp does make a big difference to
liquid
cooled engines cooling performance. Maybe benign by california death
valley
standards, but anytime its over 90F here with the humidity it doesn't
feel
benign {:>). But, I'll see if any 100F days show up in the near future
and
give it another try. So far, the data indicates I may be able to reduce
my
inlet area and still maintain adequate cooling - although I really do
not
believe I can reduce both ducts to 9 square inches inlet, but perhaps 15
square inches down from 24 for each is reasonable.

Ok, Paul in the interest of getting some data collected, I am going to
install the thermocouples and data collector and lap top and get some
data.
I normally record engine and performance data as a matter of course ever
15
minutes on every flight (going back two years), but for the data
collection,
I'll do it every 5 minutes along with any event changes (power,
altitude,
airspeed, etc.). Besides, perhaps I can later get the GPS portion
sorted
out as well.

Ed

OK Ed thanks. When you get done send the whole works back and I will get
it working with a cheap GPS. You can leave the thermal couples in place
for future use. I can always get or make more.

All this is academic of course. IMHO the cheap and simple cooling system
is the wave of the future.

Well, shoot! Missed my chance for fame and glory {:>). I will continue with
the project as I would like to have firmed data on what my two radiators are
doing out there.
